Shirl Bagley

My name is Shirl Bagley and I am 37 years old. A couple of years ago I passed by this place called Choi Kwang Do, I went in and talk to the instructor and decided I would sign up my son and myself to train in martial arts. I am a very insecure person, lacking a lot of confidence in myself. With the training I was learning at the school I started to develop more and more confidence in myself. Then the school closed and I was very disappointed.

Almost a year later I received a phone call from Mr. Bowen asking me if I would be interested in joining the school again. Of course I said, “Yes, I would love to.” Since I began training with Mr. Bowen and learning more about Choi Kwang Do, I asked "what can I do to become an Asst. Instructor?" Once I became a gold belt I was certified to become an Asst. Instructor. Since I have become and Asst. Instructor, I have been trying to help Mr. Bowen with the kid’s class 2 days a week. It is probably the most rewarding thing I have done in a long time. With Mr. Bowen’s great instruction and the knowledge of Choi Kwang Do, I have become more confident in my job and I am working on my confidence in my life. I believe I am not as insecure as I was when I first started to train.

My son, Kodi, who is 9 years old, also trains. When I watch Kodi train it fills my heart with joy because I know that he and I both are becoming great martial artists. The decision to train at Choi Kwang Do, is probably the best thing I could have ever done for myself as well as Kodi. Recently, Kodi and I attended the U.S. Seminar for Choi Kwang Do just after the release of Grand Master Choi's book "Choi Kwang Do." Seeing the inventor of this incredible martial art Grand Master Choi up there on the stage was inspirational and powerful. As the weeks have passed since the seminar I thought, "I can’t wait until the day I become a black belt under the training of Mr. Bowen." Mr. Bowen has been a wonderful inspiration in my life along with everyone else I have been training with. Thank you Mr. Bowen and thank you Choi Kwang Do for helping me become a better person in everything I do!!!
