Hello, my name is Joseph Tomalka one of several assistant instructors for Mr. Bowen. I am currently a Police Officer for the City of Duluth and have been a Police Officer for just over five years. Before becoming a Police Officer I served my country in the U.S. Army for ten years. Since I was a young boy I have always wanted to be a martial artist and spent several years as a member of the American Tae Kwon Do Association. After joining the U.S. Army I could not find an organization that was interested in my children and me nor was I stationed in one place long enough to become an active member of any martial art studio. Last year I met Mr. Bowen for the second time, the first meeting was when he was a deputy for Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Bowen told me about Choi Kwang Do and after taking one class I was hooked. Choi Kwang Do is a true self-defense martial art, which I use as a Police Officer every day. Since last year I have had a great time working with Mr. Bowen and all the other students to keep in shape and learning Choi Kwang Do.
