My name is Chaz Stafford. I am 15 years old, an Assistant Instructor, and a 1st Degree Black Belt at Choi Kwang Do of Duluth.
I have always had more energy than any one person should have...my nickname is "Spider Monkey" just for that reason! My uncle is 3rd Degree Black Belt and Cheif Instructor, Jason Bowen. He is the one responsible for getting me and my Mom to try Choi Kwang Do in the first place in 1997. I went my first lessons at the Lawrenceville Super School that was run my Master Pereira and I loved it!!! The classes let me use some of that extra energy and also taught me a lot about discipline and focus...some things that "Spider Monkeys" lack. I will never forget the time I brought home a poor conduct report and I had to show it to Master "P." He talked to me about my behavior then I had to put on my Dobak and watch the class from inside Master P's office. Believe me, I could see (and hear) all of my CKD friends training, and getting better and playing the Choi Kwang Do games...I definitely improved my behavior after that.
The more I trained, the more I enjoyed it. I joined the Black Belt Club and then the Demo Team with my Mom. I had been training for over a year when my family had to move away from the Dojang to Newton County and I had to "suspend" my training.
In 2004 my Uncle Jason opened his own Dojang in Duluth and my family had moved back to Gwinnett County. After being a Blue Belt for six years I was MORE THAN READY to move on!!! I learned all of the patterns again with the new "dodging movements." Now 15 months later I have earned my Black Belt! I am now an Assistant Instructor and can't wait to see where the future takes me in the GREATEST MARTIAL ART IN THE WORLD...CHOI KWANG DO! PIL SUNG!!!
